The David by Michelangelo at the Accademia Gallery

The statue of David by Michelangelo: the masterpiece of the Renaissance, symbol of Florence’s freedom and emblem of the rediscovery of man.

Michelangelo sculpted David as the epitome of these concepts, and he amazes us with his sculpting techniques and ability, not to mention that Michelangelo did all this using a block of poor-quality marble on which two other sculptors had tried to work but unsuccessfully.

Besides the statue of David, a visit to the Museum includes Michelangelo’s four sculptures entitled The Slaves, works that were done for Pope Julius II, as well as fascinating works such as the Rape of the Sabine Women by Giambologna and the collection of musical instruments and Stradivari which belonged to the Medici family.
