Founded in 59 BCE, the “Florentia” of the Romans still boasts clear vestiges of the city’s splendor and magnificence. The layout of the city and its main streets and squares clearly remind visitors how and why the Romans decided to build this city near the Arno river.
The aim of our itinerary, with photographs and a video, is to show the city as it was between I BCE to II CE. A prosperous city where the populace strolled between the thermal baths (Piazza Signoria), the Forum and political center (Piazza della Repubblica), the Temple of Isis (Piazza San Firenze), and the Roman Amphitheater in front of the present-day church of Santa Croce.
